A great night out and a worthy cause
On Friday 28th November we are off to the movies. Adventure Coaching is hosting the New Zealand premiere of "This is the Sea 4" - a wonderful series of sea kayaking films put together by Justine Curgenven. We interviewed Justine at the beginning of the year as part of the Adventure Heroes Series.
Justine and Barry paddled all the way around the South Island of New Zealand last summer and drammatic footage of this epic journey is now available as a DVD - along with a heap of other very cool kayak action from around the world.
Not only will it be a great night out, but it will also raise funds for a remarkable programme called Project K - Which is using adventure to transform teenagers lives - more about this below
To see previews and details of the film night click here.
If you don't live in Wellington, New Zealand, then we would love it if you could sponsor a Project K teenager to go along to the night and also help with the fundraising effort. Why would you bother? Because for NZ$15 you get to powerfully influence the life of one teenager, and give them adventure experiences they would not otherwise get. Click here for details.
Transforming teenagers through Adventure
Last week I met up with Molly and Elouise. In many ways they are typical teenagers. Their friends are 'like' really important to them, they can text and talk to you at the same time. And every other word is "like" like.
With one huge difference.
They are "Project K" kids.
This means they are part of a group of 12 kids (aged 14 or so) in their school to take on a series of challenges.
First up is a 3 week Adventure Camp. Molly told me that they had to "like get up really early, at 7 or 7:15am and do like exercises and then they had to make their own breakfast"... and this was just the start. They went abseiling and tramping (for non-NZ'ers that is code for really tough hiking that lasts for several days).
They also kept a personal journal and were encouraged to have goals each day and discuss with the group the actions they had taken to reach their goals.
After the Adventure Camp they also take on a Community Project and are then mentored for the next year.
I was blown away by the positive energy of these girls. But what really melted my heart was meeting Molly's mother. The pride and relief just oozed out of her - things have not always been easy, after all they are teenagers.
Meeting Molly and Elouise has inspired me to get in behind this amazing programme. It uses the power of Adventure with a critical age group. And it is clearly making a difference.
You can be part of that difference. Sponsor a teenager at our movie premiere (100% of your money goes to Project K). Click here to find out more
The finest walk in the world
Next week I am heading off to do the "Milford Track".
The 4 day walk is world renown for its spectacular scenery (huge mountains and waterfalls), high rainfall and large numbers of sandflies (insects that bite leaving a nasty itch for weeks).
I will let you know how it goes. I think there could be a critical moment or two in there.
For those in the States, have a wonderful Thanksgiving. For those in other lands have a thankful and wonderful month, because despite what we hear on the news we have a lot to be thankful for all year round.
Wishing you a life of inspiration and Adventure
Sarah Wilson Adventure Coach
p.s. Nearly forgot... the Critical Moments e-book and bonus deal is going to be closed off at the end of this week (this really is the final call). So take a look now before it goes. Click here to find out more.
