New Adventures
When was the last time you tried something new?
Sometimes we love taking on new things... other times merely the idea of going outside our comfort zone makes us break out in a cold sweat.
For me, taking on new Adventures is often fun. But there are things - generally involving water and the threat of being cold, wet and underneath a rushing torrent - that leave me feeling distinctly uncomfortable.
I recently decided that I really needed to understand this process better. How do we take on new adventures? especially when we get overwelmed with fear?
So, in the true style of Adventure Coaching, I put it to the test and got into Action.
My test was to take on Surfing in my Sea Kayak. I hate the idea of waves crashing in on top of me and potentially going for a nasty swim in churning water. However, I do love being in my Sea Kayak, and I already have quite a few skills in managing my boat.
Take careful note here, I chose something that was outside of my comfort zone and required me to face my fears. However, I did not pick something impossible for me to try.
The next things was to find a great instructor and others to share the adventure with.
The annual gathering of the Kiwi Association of Sea Kayakers was the perfect opportunity. I registered for the learning to surf session with instructors who really knew their stuff (Babs Lindman and Justine Curgenven were instructing - they had both just circumnavigated the South Island of New Zealand!).
The day dawned with screaming wind and vertical rain.. the surf seemed massive and continuous. I quietly hoped that the lesson might be cancelled. But no! Our instructors told us they were "perfect" conditions to learn!
Take a look at the video of me learning to surf on my blog. Click this link to watch the video
What I learned was that when I put the skills into action they actually worked! You can actually surf safely and enjoy the conditions!
But most of all, once it was FUN, the fear disappeared.
So go ahead and try something new. Something that stretches you.
Take on new adventures and discover the richness of life and inspiration that is available.
And on the way... overcome your fears... and have FUN!

What's next with the Adventure Heroes Series?
Many of you have told me how much you enjoyed the Series of 7 interviews with Adventure Heroes.
Here's what Craig from Australia said :
" It was great to hear interviews with people I've admired for a long time and haven't had the chance to talk to... The series was great, and I love having the mp3's on my iPod to replay constantly"
So there are 2 things that you need to know.
First - and this is really important,
I am putting the finishing touches on the Series over the next week. That means downloads of all 7 interviews, transcripts, Action worksheets and a bunch of bonuses. Also, I am throwing in an exclusive interview that I did with Justine Curgenven and her partner Barry soon after their huge journey around New Zealand's South Island (just working on the edits now).
I am offering a "last week special" on this Adventure Heroes Series. The price is crazy. Next week the price doubles. So you need to take a look now before time runs out.

Secondly
I am working on what's next. I have a bunch of great ideas. And I can think up great ideas all day long. The thing is I want to hear what YOU want, so I can give you great value.
I will be sending out a short survey to get your ideas. Make sure you join in.
And for those that just can't wait for the survey, send me your ideas anyway!
Wishing you great adventures and a life that makes a difference
