Who are your Heroes?

Welcome to the inaugral Adventure e-newsletter!

Heroes seem to have had quite some prominence lately... there was the quiet guy who "just did what anyone would do" and rescued the crashed truck driver before his truck exploded.  Cool.

And then... there is the TV programme - Heroes.

Whether you watch the Heroes programme or not there is something deeply fascinating about their basic story line.

Before we talk about what's on the telly, let me warn you that I have a fascination with the idea of a hero.  It all started with that M People song...

Search for the Hero inside yourself... until you find the key to your life

The fact that it was played at my best friend's funeral when she died a hero (in my book anyway) probably had quite a bit to do with it... I digress.

Back to the TV version of Heroes. The basic plot is somewhat captivating... there are among us people with extraordinary powers which have been kept secret... and if these people unite they could save - or destroy - life as we know it.

Do you buy it?

Probably not.  Although, if we dig a little deeper, we unearth a quiet longing to find "heroes" that are ordinary people who inspire us by their "extra-ordinary" powers of courage, determination or selflessness.

So who are these extra-ordinary people?
And what can we learn from them to bring out the hero in each of us?

I have thought up a rather cool idea

We are currently talking to some extra-ordinary people in New Zealand and around the globe about creating a series of live interviews with some of the people I consider to be Adventure Heroes of our time.   I can't wait to tell you who will be involved... but unfortunately that is top secret at the moment.

Except that I can say that  the "Adventure Heroes" include  entreprenurial adventurers, outdoor adventurers and those who are pushing their own limits in some fairly outstanding ways.

And here is what you can do now:

We want to know WHO are your adventure heroes?

Go to the heroes section of the website and you will see that there are a range of suggested heroes.  Vote for your favourites, OR if your favourite hero is not there then add them to the list.

Vote now

So think about it..  who is a hero for you?

They could be someone you know personally, have read about, or simply admire from a distance.  For that matter, take a moment and ask yourself  "Who is someone alive today who is a hero for me?"

We will report back to you in the next e-newsletter the results of the vote and also update you on progress with the live interviews.

Thanks for joining me and I look forward to your reponses.
