Life resting at ABC

The Team preparing to leave Camp 1.5
Last night I awoke parched only to discover I had left my water bottle in the dining tent. The simple solution was to open my tent door and scoop a handful of fresh snow from the roof and chew on this. The insulation provided by several centimeters of new snow also meant that neither sounds of the kitchen or the heat of the sun awakened me. Sleeping in until bed tea at 8.00am felt fantastic and a rare treat! This is what rest periods are all about and after three nights up high we all need several days for recovery. This time up high is vital for acclimatization but it takes a toll on the body. A great excuse to sleep, read, watch videos and just chill out. When do type A's get to do this in their daily life.

The Tibetan Mountaineering School have relinquished all rope fixing responsibilities and have left Cho Oyu for the season. (Under a new rule this season they had decided to fix all ropes on Cho Oyu for the substantial price of $100 per expedition member). The current situation is that a cooperative team effort consisting of Sherpa from several major teams are now planning to fix ropes on the upper mountain. This has long been the customary approach. The rope fixing is expected to resume on the 23rd weather and snow condones allowing. It is hoped the summit slopes will be completed by the 24/25th. Immediately there after the first groups are hoping to summit Cho Oyu for the season. We wish them every success and hope the route to the summit is soon opened. Meanwhile our daily life revolves around meal times and the wonderful food our hard working cook staff turn out. It is that time on an expedition where the occasional beer and wine goes well with the social banter and Martin's attempt to educate us all on great Austrian and classical composers. While resting we would all like to be able to transport ourselves back home to be with family, friends and loved one's but what to say, here we are! Please hang in with us while we wait to complete the final demanding and important phase of Cho Oyu.

Best Wishes
