Ensconced in Camp 1
Tent Farm at Camp 1 Everyone did well retracing their steps back to Camp 1 after only one full rest day. There are some members of our team who did not find the scree slope any easier third time round (and guides as well!). Julian and Thomas reckon the fourth time will be easier but only because it will be the last.
While we spent most of the day inside a cloud it was a rather benevolent fluffy white one with ticklish snow flakes.
So here we are, stoves running eating resplendent high altitude cuisine; I wish! Actually, Lucas had a wonderful meal; I'm quite serious and he has become my high altitude culinary role model. Today, our Sherpas carried a load to Camp 1.5 (top of the ice cliff) in their specially designed Sherpa Gortex, namely Jeans!
Aside from all this usual dispatch dribble the big news on Cho Oyu was an avalanche which swept seven members of the summit fixing party over the rock step known as the Yellow Band. Fortunately, they all survived and a strong rescue response means they should all be at C1 or lower tonight. Four walking wounded have already descended to ABC. It is believed they were all members of the Tibetan Mountaineering School. Like everyone else on the mountain we are relieved the outcome was not worse.
To the family and friends of AC members we wish to assure you that we will take every precaution for safety and we do not anticipate problems on our route to C1.5 tomorrow. Also, heat on the slopes this afternoon will help to stabilize the slopes and plus it has stopped snowing for the time being.
Lets see how everyone sleeps at C1 second time round.
Best from us to you all
