Taking time out before heading to Camp 1

Today I awoke to minus 10 degrees outside and a very heavy frost on the outside of the tent.   However, when the sun hit the tent a few minutes later the temperature inside went up to 25 degrees!   We each have our own tents at Advanced Base Camp and we are enjoying the extra space.

Today we are building up our strength for a big day tomorrow. Tomorrow we head up to Camp One and then head back down again - all part of the graadual acclimitisation process.   Our route heads up very rocky terrain starting from ABC which is the equivalent height to the summit of Kilimanjaro.   We then make our way up a huge rocky scree slope to Camp One which is the equivalent height to the highest mountains in Europe.

I have been taking some time out to think about how this journey I am on is like setting a goal for yourself and then going about achieving it.   It can take a significant amount of time simply preparing to get to the base of the actual dream.   Just like for me arriving finally at Base Camp and actually seeing the mountain for the first time.   It has already taken significant effort just to get to the place where you can see clearly what the goal will ask of you.   Looking up at this huge mountain feels incredible - both hugely humbling and exciting at the same time.   However, much as it is great to see the whole mountain in front of me, my focus is simply on the next step and the next breath.   While we see the big goal and get excited, the next thing is to put our heads back down and focus on the next small thing that we need to do.

All the best with your goals and dreams - keep taking the next step.

I will be back in touch probably the day after tomorrow when we have been to Camp 1.
