Adventure Heroes Interview Series - NEW!

OK, we have been really busy over the last few months and have talked to Adventure Heroes from all over the planet.  The really exciting news is that we now have a series of live interviews with some incredible people.  They will inspire and amaze, as well as giving you the inside story on how YOU can be a hero!

The bad news is that space on these live telephone interviews is going to be really limited as the interest has been HUGE.

So the best thing is to make sure you register so that you get the details.

Oh, and by the way, the interviews are free!

Everyday Heroes – tell us yours!

We are in the process of putting together some of these heroic stories. If you know of someone that you believe is an everyday hero then email us at heroes@adventurecoaching.co.nz and we will make sure that their story is told so that others can be encouraged and inspired, and maybe lend a hand.

Also, you can VOTE for your favourite Adventure Hero here

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.”

Leaving Sydney on the World's First Trans-Tasman Kayak Expedition
Well done boys!  You did it!  Over an incredible 2 months these guys have stuck with dissapointment and challenging conditions.  They came ashore to a huge welcome in Taranaki.  It was a hugely proud moment for Aussies and Kiwis.  They are heroes!

"THROUGH COMMITTING OURSELVES TO ACHIEVING ONE OF "AUSTRALIA´S LAST GREAT FIRST" ADVENTURES, WE WISH TO INSPIRE OTHERS NOT TO BE AFRAID OF PURSUING THEIR OWN ADVENTURES AND DREAMS..."

Some thoughts about everyday adventures from our own emerging hero, Explorer Wez:

Adventure, I could tell you a story or 3, I'm not short of any; downhill mountain bike guiding in the jungle; boarder patrol bribery; cycle touring canadian great lakes..... But they're big adventures, born of big plans, and time, and ideas, and several plans mislaid.

Small adventures are where it's at, every day, excitement, wonder and anticipation, even trepidation, perhaps fear, every day! The little things can have big impact.

The 'sense of adventure' is the sixth sense. If you have it you can feel all the things adventure reveals in youself on many levels every day. Riding to work through the city - fear, trepidation, trails even; night running in the bush - heightened senses, speed, anticipation; bobbing in a boat fishing in rough winds; friendship of friends doing any activity' a monarch butterfly crossing your path on a stark urban landscape; daydreaming - anything can provoke a sense of adventure, if you let it.

How well tuned you are into your own sense of adventure will define how often you feel the 'buzz' of life which creates energy and flows into your whole life.

Smile more, feel naughty, talk to buskers, wink at a stranger, skip stones on the water.

Work on the little things and the big ones will take care of themselves.

Historic Adventure heroes

If you are lacking in ideas or inspiration there is always a rich harvest of stories from the past that will awaken your adventurous spirit.

Take for example Sir Wilfred Thesiger an Oxford-educated adventurer who spent much of his life roaming the most distant, desolate and inaccessible parts of the world.  One of Thesiger's most famous book’s was "Arabian Sands" about his travels with the Bedu people across the Empty Quarter of southern Arabia in the 1940s.

At one point, unable to sleep due to some uninvited guests, and feeling “thoroughly ill-tempered,” Thesiger wrote, “I tried the old spell of asking myself, ‘Would I really wish to be anywhere else?’ and having decided that I would not, I felt better.” It’s the kind of thing one has to do while starving in the desert. But also, it is the kind of thing we all might hope to find ourselves doing, because that is what traveling is about.

“It is not the goal, but the way there that matters,” Thesiger wrote, “and the harder the way, the more worthwhile the journey.”

Arabian Sands is one of the most worthwhile journeys we can take vicariously, and reading it inspires us to find our own hard way. If we’re lucky, we might just find what Thesiger found in the sands. “I had come here looking for more than locusts,” he wrote, “and was finding the life for which I sought.”
